Infectious diseases continue to cause a large share of illness and death worldwide, and antimicrobial resistance threatens to undo decades of progress. Climate change, global travel and funding gaps are also allowing old and new infections to spread.
This session addresses the prevention, control and treatment of infectious diseases from a public health perspective. It brings together epidemiologists, clinicians, microbiologists, nurses, midwives and public health experts.
Key topics include antimicrobial resistance and carbapenem-resistant bacteria, antibiotic stewardship, tuberculosis prevention and community-based control, HIV prevention, treatment and psychosocial support, malaria and drug resistance, fever definitions, testing and management, infections in pregnancy and newborns, sexually transmitted infections, vaccination programs and vaccine confidence, infection prevention and control in health facilities, outbreak preparedness and response, and surveillance systems.
We welcome surveillance and epidemiological studies, clinical research, community interventions and reviews. Participants will gain up-to-date knowledge to strengthen infection prevention and control in their settings.
