Labour and Childbirth Care

Labour and birth are among the most important moments in a woman's life, and the care she receives shapes both her physical outcomes and how she remembers the experience. Modern intrapartum care aims not only to keep mothers and babies safe, but also to support a positive childbirth experience.

This session focuses on evidence-based care during labour and birth. It brings together midwives, obstetricians, nurses, doulas, educators and researchers who want to improve care in hospitals, birth centres and community settings.

Key topics include birth companionship and continuous support, hydrotherapy and water immersion, non-pharmacological and pharmacological pain relief, upright positions and mobility in labour, intrapartum fetal monitoring including cardiotocography and ST-segment analysis, preventing unnecessary interventions, caesarean birth and its outcomes for mothers and newborns, traditional practices during labour, sociodemographic and obstetric factors that influence childbirth experience, and the WHO labour care guide.

We invite clinical studies, trials, quality-improvement projects and qualitative research. Attendees will leave with practical, evidence-based approaches to make labour and birth safer and more positive.
