3rd Edition of the Public Health and Midwifery World Conference 2027

Scientific Sessions - PHMWC 2027

Sexual and Reproductive Health

The weeks after birth are a critical but often neglected period for mothers and newborns. Many maternal and newborn deaths occur during this time, and good postnatal care and breastfeeding support have lifelong benefits for health and development.

This session examines how to strengthen care for mothers and babies after birth, both in facilities and at home. It brings together midwives, lactation consultants, nurses, pediatricians, community health workers and researchers.

Key topics include breastfeeding initiation and exclusive breastfeeding, lactation support after caesarean birth, continuity of care from hospital to home, postnatal check-ups and home visits, kangaroo mother care and care of small and sick newborns, recognizing danger signs in mothers and babies, postpartum family planning, maternal recovery and pelvic health, workplace and policy support for breastfeeding, and community and peer support programs.

We welcome clinical studies, scoping and systematic reviews, program evaluations and policy analyses. Participants will gain practical approaches to make the postnatal period safer and healthier.
